開發票請不要說Open invoice，開公司也不是Open my company

很多人想到「開」，腦筋自然聯想到單字open，例如：open a door／open a window/open your eyes，但本文中提到的開發票、開始創業、開冷氣、開刀等，必須使用另外的單字或片語。

海外客戶下了訂單，Jessica告訴客戶，她會開好發票（出貨單）寄給對方，她說：

I will open an invoice.

對方聽不太懂，搞了半天，原來開發票不用open這個動詞。

很多人想到「開」，腦筋自然聯想到open，open真的把一樣東西「打開」，像open a door／open a window/open your eyes，很多中文裡說的「開」，其實和打開無關，來看大家經會犯的錯。

1.開發票

（Ｘ）Open an invoice
（Ｏ）Invoice someone
（Ｏ）Send someone an invoice

開發票和打開無關，可直接把Invoice當動詞用，也就是「開發票給某人」。沒有對象時可以用 settle/ send/ submit/ issue an invoice。

We'll invoice you for goods and service.
我們會開商品跟服務的發票給你。

We will send an invoice within 1 or 2 business days.
我們會在一到兩個工作天之內送出發貨單。

（Ｏ）Start a business

He quitted his job and started his own business.
他把工作辭了，開始創業。

很多人覺得創業是開公司，於是就直覺地說open a company，聽起來很彆扭，但「開始創業」其實要用start a business。

（Ｘ）Open the air-conditioner.
（Ｏ）Turn on air-conditioner.

打開電器，基本上是讓電流通過，電器「開始運作」，英文開關用 turn on/ off，不是真的把冷氣拆開來，開燈、開電腦都是這個道理。

I need to turn on the light.
我需要打開燈。

如果說 open the light bulb，則是指把電燈泡「拆開」。

（Ｏ）Perform/ undergo/ have a surgery

中文說開刀，是「進行手術」的意思，但英文依對象要用不同動詞，醫生開刀用perform（施行），病人接受手術用undergo（經歷）或have。

He had undergone a surgery in July and now he is well recovered.
他七月動了個手術，現在已經恢復得很好
