繼前幾年中國年輕世代興起的Lying flat movement「躺平運動」，及疫情期間美國爆發的Great resignation「大離職潮」，2022年7月由一名紐約工程師在Tik Tok發布的影片，更是掀起新一波的Quite quitting「安靜辭職」風潮。本次讓我們從TOEIC測驗的情境，了解這波浪潮的英文單字用法。
安靜辭職並非真的離職
Quiet quitting並非真的辭職或是離開職場，根據紐約工程師Zaiad Khan的影片表示：
You’re not outright quitting your job, but you’re quitting the idea of going above and beyond …
You are still performing your duties, but you are no longer subscribing to the hustle culture mentally that work has to be our life.
（你沒有徹底放棄你的工作，而是放棄努力進取的想法。你仍在履行職責，只是不再精神上認同這種奮鬥文化的心態，認為工作必須是我們的生活。）
perform(v.)在TOEIC測驗的文化活動情境中，通常解釋為「表演」，但在工作職場情境裡，代表「做、進行」，例如job performance「工作表現」，或是每年員工的performance review「績效考核」，review(n.)在此是「評估、評價」，而非「複習」。
此外，review也能當動詞使用，類似用作evaluate、assess「評估、評量」。較難的同義字還有appraise(v.)，名詞appraisal則代表「評估價值或品質」。
Mr. Chen’s supervisor complimented his job performance.
（Mr. Chen的主管對他的工作表現相當讚許。）
Employee appraisal typically takes place at the end of the year.
（員工考核通常在年底進行。）
subscribe (v.)最常見的解釋為「訂閱」，但也可代表「認同、同意」某建議或意見。
hustle可以是名詞或動詞，通常當名詞時為「充滿活力、行動力」。hustle and bustle形容一個地方「喧鬧嘈雜」，有匆促忙碌的感覺，如hustle and bustle of a marketplace「市場的喧鬧嘈雜」或office hustle and bustle「辦公室的喧囂」。
To escape from the hustle and bustle of city life, Mr. Smith usually spends his weekends at the cottage in the countryside
（為了離開城市的喧囂，Mr. Smith通常會在鄉間的小屋裡度過他的周末。）
拒絕超時工作反對奮鬥文化
hustle culture代表「奮鬥的文化」，英文解釋為a culture that encourages employees to work more than normal hours.（一種鼓勵員工超時工作的文化）。
hours (n.)可以解釋為「時數」或「時間」，一般工作時間就是work hours，彈性工時則可以用flexible hours或是flextime，其他用法還有office hours「辦公時間」、business hours「營業時間」，如果要表達工作時數很長可以說I work long hours，加班或超時工作也可用work overtime來形容。
Mr. Collins usually needs to work long hours in the supermarket a week before new year holiday.
（Mr. Collins在新年假期前通常需要在超市工作較長的時間。）
Workers should receive overtime pay if they work more than forty hours in a workweek.
（勞工如果一周工作超過40小時，則應該有加班費。）
Quiet quitting就是反對奮鬥文化造成身心影響，以及工作與生活失衡而出現的一種風潮，這些安靜辭職人士（Quiet quitters）平日在工作上僅追求跟上（keep up）工作進度，並且準時下班。
片語keep up解釋為「趕上、跟上」，可以在後方加上with (something)，代表「跟上（事情）」。
To keep up with the latest business news, Mr. Jones needs to read at least 5 different newspapers after he arrives in the office.
